Frequently Asked Questions for Homeowners

How does it work?
The process works by filling a room with a fine mist comprising 10-micron particles. As the particles settle onto all surfaces including the ones not usually touched as part of conventional cleaning or even deep cleaning (think walls, electric switches, carpets, soft furnishings, deep inside keyboards coving, ceilings, light pendants, undersides of  worktops, desks, chairs and shelves etc) as well as all the surfaces that you would normally disinfect, Steri-7 kicks into action killing bacteria, spores and viruses fast.
What is Reactive Barrier Technology and how does it work?
Reactive Barrier Technology is a specialised micro emulsion which provides an optional sustained release system – this means that the Reactive Barrier can be turned on or offer depending on the situation. It’s simple, if you rinse Steri-7 Xtra after our technician has applied it you will remove the barrier. If you leave Steri-7 Xtra to dry you enable the Reactive Barrier Technology. This gives you added Biosecurity and protection between cleans.
Is ULV misting of harmful to health?
Most of us already use disinfectant to clean surfaces in in our home. Food preparation on freshly disinfected surfaces is much safer than undisinfected surfaces and likewise our floors and bathrooms.  The misting and spraying we undertake is a safe and proven way of infection control that will protect you, the people you live with and your pets. Because of this we advise that you do not wipe surfaces after disinfecting because this will remove some of the protection. The Steri-7 disinfectant we use is food safe, used in commercial food production, in care homes, nurseries, hospitals and offices. And the process our technicians follow is the same irrespective of the environment. The chemicals we use are the same as those used in domestic disinfectants. The specialist micro-encapsulated long-lasting form we use is what extends the protection throughout your home as opposed to just the areas you usually disinfect. Most people use disinfectant to make work and food surfaces safe for example and do not then wipe it away before preparing food or using a desk. This product is no different.
Do I have to leave our home whilst your technician is applying the treatment?
Yes. All members of your household and your pets must vacate the property for 1 hour as a precaution while the disinfectant is airborne.
We have people in our home with asthma/underlying health conditions. Will this affect them?
The disinfectant is extremely safe and undetectable once dry with no risk to respiratory conditions or other health conditions. However, if you have any concerns please talk to us as there are other ways of us carrying out this disinfection and protection. If you have any doubts please speak to your doctor. The disinfectant is non-toxic, government approved and 100% safe. The fact that it is used in hospitals to combat COVID-19 and other viruses should be reassuring.
We have elderly people living with us. Will this have a negative impact on them?
As mentioned earlier, they will have to leave your home for one hour, but they will be much better protected after the treatment.
Can I leave out clothes and my laptop?
Yes. And the treatment is especially effective for dirty keyboards.
Do I have to store ornaments and books away?
No. But if you do have a concern let us know and we will take steps to avoid the item or cover it up. The disinfectant is colorless, odorless and invisible once dry.
How safe is it to let your technician into my home?
We care passionately about our staff’s safety and we know how important the service is that they are providing to households at this difficult time. The technician visiting you will be fully enclosed in PPE. This includes gloves, overalls, a full-face mask with a respirator that covers eyes as well as mouth and nose (far superior to those used in the NHS because it has been designed to protect against all pathogens and the insecticides and gases used in pest control). Essentially the technician is in a protective bubble. There is more risk from taking deliveries at your door and visiting the supermarket than allowing our technician in your home.  Your technician will of course naturally be fully coated with disinfectant when applying the mist treatment. Pest controllers are key workers and still working in homes and businesses all over the UK protecting people from disease carrying pests such as rats and mice etc. We follow all applicable rules and guidance from the UK government and agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)at all times.
